Saara Raatikainen

On behalf of the Finnish Hand Therapy Society and both the organizing and scientific committees of the 26th Scandinavian Hand Society Congress I am honored to welcome you to Levi, Finland.

The therapists’ program consists of focus sessions on new insights on central pain mechanisms and the role of fascia in upper limb pain. We also get to deepen our understanding in peripheral neuropathies, the central changes related to them and the clinical means in measuring them. And finally bring all this together when interpreting functional and sensory assessment results into clinical practice. Workshops related to these same topics will provide you with a clinical perspective to support your theoretical knowledge.

A therapeutic view will also be included in the main hand surgeons’ sessions including tendon transfers and tetraplegic rehabilitation, brachial plexus injuries and tendon repair. Therapists’ and surgeons’ combined program focuses on sports related injuries of the wrist and elbow.

You will have the opportunity to choose your preferred topics from the concurrent programs, and with the chance of mixing both lectures and workshops, this will provide an interesting and versatile entity for therapists from different backgrounds and work settings.

In addition to the compact program, the congress location allows you to enjoy the Finnish Lapland. Levi provides you the settings for having fun, relaxing and enjoying different winter sports and activities.

I offer you a warm welcome to the 26th Scandinavian Hand Society Congress and look forward to seeing you in Levi in 2016!

Saara Raatikainen
